FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

Where can I download and/or buy Thundersub?

A:

By far the most asked question I keep getting. Sadly, a answer is hard to give.
You can start by looking at the Information and then the forum thread here, for various available options on how to get a hold of a legal copy of Thundersub. As far as downloading is concerned I can only offer what is available over at the Multimedia section.

Other options might include eBay and similar places, in real life, bargain bins and places like that, you get the idea.

Q:

I have downloaded the Spanish episodes using BitTorrent (torrent can be found in the Multimedia section),
but I don't speak a word of Spanish and hence I need (English) subtitles! Are there any?

A:

To the best of my knowledge there are no subtitles available.

Q:

The Spanish BitTorrent episodes tracker is not working or my download speed is terrible. What can I do?

A:

Usually when the Tracker is down the only option is to wait.
Slow downlaod speed? Again, nothing much else to do than wait.

Q:

I have (finally) downloaded the Spanish episodes, but the files don't work, what should I do?

A:

You probably don't have the right codecs installed, personally I would recommend VLC Media Player that doesn't
need extra codecs installed to play most every video file out there.

Q:

BiTorrent? Trackers? What?

A:

Q:

I've seen other series (for example Star Blazers / Uchuu Senkan Yamato and others) that not only seem to feature a submarine / spaceship that is really similar to the ship from Thundersub / Blue Noah, not only that, but the story and charachters seem similar too! What gives? Are they all copying Thundersub / Blue Noah or what?

A:

Yes... and no. Star Blazers / Uchuu Senkan Yamato can be explained quite easily, many of the people that made Star Blazers also did Thundersub, it should be noted though that they did do Star Blazers first. Other series with similar looking big ships can also be explained, the reason being quite simply that they were more or less all modeled after the IJN Yamato, the biggest battleship ever made (commissioned and sunk during World War II). Similarities are then of course bound to be apparent.

Other things like characters and story such are perhaps more difficult to explain but I think it's fair to say that fair amount of "artistic borrowing" happened here and there, none the least thanks to the fact that Star Blazers was a huge success both at home and internationally.
